The left head can be used to grab objects and people. The Darkness is comprised of two sentient tentacles that can be independently controlled with two different triggers or keys. Acquired roughly 15 minutes into the game, it can only be used in the darkness which encourages the player to shoot out lights and destroy generators scattered around the environment. The Darkness is what sets The Darkness from other first person shooters.

Jackie can carry two light weapons plus a large firearm (shotguns & assault rifles) at a time. Ammo can be picked up off enemies or by finding ammo crates. Jackie can pick up any firearm and can dual wield smaller weapons such as uzis. The gameplay focuses mainly around gunplay and using The Darkness. The player controls Jackie from the first person perspective. The Darkness II is a first person shooter. However, Patton is the only reprising voice actor from the original Darkness, with the rest of the returning characters featuring different voice actors - including Jackie himself, who was voiced by Brian Bloom instead of Kirk Acevedo. The famously versatile voice of Mike Patton returns to supply The Darkness with the ghastly shrieks and grunts it has become synonymous with. The game features brand new Darkness attacks as well as a new cell-shaded art style intended to evoke the style of the comic-books.

The game continues the adventures of Jackie Estacado who's now a full fledged mob boss in New York City. The Darkness II is developed by Digital Extremes (as opposed to Starbreeze who developed the first one) and was released on February 7th, 2012. He did mention during a Q&A at Fan Expo Vancouver that production could start on a new film later this year, although this is not substantiated by any other information.The Darkness II is the sequel to the The Darkness. This is especially true for beloved star Bruce Campbell, who announced that he was retiring from playing Ash following the series' cancelation, and who has been outspoken about how difficult it was to greenlight the show in the first place. Evil Dead, but it seems as if the rise and fall of this continuation have caused fatigue for those involved.

Even that proved how niche the Evil Dead fandom was when the series was canceled by its network, Starz, due to low ratings.Įvil Dead 4 (or Army of Darkness 2) was perhaps a more viable option before Ash vs. The healthy profits of the remake raised hopes for a potential sequel to the original trilogy, but any ideas for this were eventually incorporated into a more financially viable television show. Because of this, Sam Raimi still struggled to get funding for another Evil Dead movie despite the director's career success. The legacy of Evil Dead is so resilient that it's hard to imagine that Army of Darkness was a box office bomb upon its initial release. Evil Dead implied that Raimi would have revisited this idea if the show never got canceled, but the story was once again stopped in its tracks from continuing on. The finale of the final season of Ash vs. Originally, Raimi had intentions of continuing the series in a futuristic, dystopian England, but this idea never came to fruition. Thus, making a fourth Evil Dead movie was always an uphill battle. Finally, there were the rumors of how director Fede Alvarez's 2013 remake fit into the larger Evil Dead universe, bolstered by a post-credits appearance by Ash. Evil Dead, he was unable to refer to events in Army of Darkness until he had worked out the legal details. As Sam Raimi was developing the television show Ash vs. Army of Darkness, the third entry, was more directly tied to its predecessor, but legal issues with Universal Studios over the film's rights led to further confusion in the future. The entire Evil Dead franchise has embraced fluid continuity ever since Evil Dead II, which retcons the events of the first film and thus is as much a remake as it is a sequel.
